On the authentication screen click on "Use Another authentication method". Once you have entered your details click on "Login" 4. Provided you got your security questions right you should now be logged in to Xero. Now that you are logged in - in the top right hand corner of the screen click on your initials then click on "Account" 6.

On this screen click on "Disable" next to Two-Step Authentication. On the next screen click on "Finish" 9. Enter the code from your phone and click continue. We strongly recommend setting this up however if you do not have access to an alternative email you can click "Not Now" Once you have entered the code from the email or clicked not now you will be back on the Xero account screen and can see it says that Two step authentication is enabled and ready to go on your new device Now - the above process is really if you do not have access to your old device.

Step 1 : Install the Authenticator app on your new iPhone or Android phone. Step 2 : Visit Google's two-step verification site on your computer. Log in to your Google account to view your current 2SV settings.

I had trouble getting the app to work on my new device. I could not switch it off on my old phone because the screen was broken.

Download the Google Authenticator app and set it up on your new phone. Go to your "account" at the top left of the home screen. Where "Two Step Authentication" is listed, click disable. Go to Account, and click to "enable" two step authentication.

A QR code will come up. Scan this with your Google authentication app scanner. The app will then show an initial code. Enter this into Xero. You can select "other" ways to verify yourself. I first selected the secret questions, but this failed so i got a code sent to my back up email.

Add a backup email address, then click Continue. Your answers can only contain letters or numbers, and not any symbols or special characters. While logged in to Xero, click your initials or profile image at the top right of the screen, then select Account. They also need to be five or more characters. You're now set up to use MFA next time you log into Xero.

If you can't install apps on your work computer yourself, ask your IT team to install an authenticator app for you, either on your computer or your organisation's server. There are a number of authenticator apps available, such as our recommended app Authy. Alternatively, you can use the steps below to do this. Click Set up multi-factor authentication to get started.

If you're not yet required to set up MFA but want to get started, do this while you're logged in. Click your initials or profile image at the top right of the screen and select Account.

Under Additional Security , next to Multi-factor authentication , click Set up. This will take you to the start of the MFA process.
